Why register in the Guardian Insurance Father's Day Classic?
Cancer Council SA aims to raise awareness and much needed funds towards mens cancers and
promote a healthy activity the whole family can enjoy.
There are scenic Adelaide metro, hills routes and kids fun circuit, a ride to suit all levels.
How do riders enter the event?
Riders can enter via the event website at www.fathersdayclassic.org.au, over the phone on
the events hotline 1300 65 65 85 or in person at Cancer Council SA offices at 202
Greenhill Road, Eastwood.
Registrations close at 5.00pm on Wednesday 2 September. Late registrations will be taken
in person at Cancer Council offices on Thursday 3 and Friday 4 September at an
additional fee of $10.00 per registration and on event day at an additional fee of $20.00
per registration.
Where do the rides start and finish?
Registration, start, finish and presentation will be on Beaumont Road (south end), where it
meets Greenhill Road in Adelaide.
What is the predicted schedule for the day?
0730 Registration for all riders commences
0845 Registration closes
0900 Ride commences (42 km Mount Lofty Circuit and 12 km Metro Circuit)
0930 First finishers in 12 km Metro Circuit
0945 Elite Time Trial Sprint commences
1030 First finishers in 42 km Mount Lofty Circuit
1100 Last finishers in 12 km Metro Circuit
1230 Last finishers in 42 km Mount Lofty Circuit

What responsibilities do riders have?

Participant’s bike must be in a roadworthy condition, especially tyres, gears and brakes. It is recommended that a bike shop check your bike before you ride.

Riders must be able to ride s`pairs to their own bike (e.g. fix a flat tyre).

Riders must be fit enough to ride the course they choose.

General guidelines are:
-
12 km Metro Circuit is uphill to Portrush Road, then gently undulating with some gradual downhills. Cut off time is 1.5 hrs, so riders must average 8km/hr or faster.

42 km Mount Lofty Circuit is uphill to Mt Lofty, then undulating with some steep downhills. Cut off time is 3.5 hrs, so riders must average 12 km/hr or faster.

Riders must be confident that they have bike handling skills appropriate to the course, conditions and elevations. If in doubt riders are encouraged to practice by riding the official route before Father’s Day.

Riders must be self sufficient with all items required to complete their ride unassisted. This includes water and other fluids, food, spares, tools and if possible, a mobile phone.

Riders must know their course route and follow it. Riders who deviate from the official course do so at their own risk.

Riders who are under 16 years old on the day of the ride must be accompanied by a rider who is aged 18 years or older.
Is there car parking available?
Car parking is not available on Beaumont Road (south end); however there is substantial
parking available on Greenhill Road, Beaumont Road (north end), East Terrace, suburbs
south of Greenhill Road and suburbs north of South Terrace. Please note all parking signs
for any restrictions that may apply.
Are there baggage facilities available?
There is no provision to store any baggage at the start of the race. It is advised that all
valuables be left in your car, at home or with a spectator.
Are there toilet facilities nearby?
Toilets can be accessed at the Touch SA Clubrooms as well as the public toilets 400 m west
of Beaumont Road.
What instructions apply to the rides?
BEFORE THE RIDE

Please check you have everything you need to ride (bike, helmet, shoes, gloves, clothes, spares, tools, water, food, bike lock, mobile phone).

Registration commences from 7:30 am - 8:45 am. You will be issued with a ride number which must be pinned to the back of your t-shirt.

There will be a compulsory briefing at 8:45am which every rider must attend.

Riders will be asked to assemble on Beaumont Road in order of their planned finish time (fastest first).

Police will stop Greenhill Road traffic to allow riders to safely exit Beaumont Road.

Riders must stay behind leading police vehicles until they pull off the course at approx 1km.
DURING THE RIDE
-
Your main priority must be safety for all riders, as careless riding is dangerous.

Obey all road rules. The rides are not races.

Private support vehicles create hazards for riders and are not allowed.

Watch out for other course users, whether they are cars, bikes or pedestrians, and give way to them as required. The Crafers Bike Track is shared with pedestrians, and of course other public cyclists. All roads are shared with cars, so please show courtesy at all times and move over to allow cars to pass.

Pass other riders on the right only if safe to do so.

Leave sufficient space around you to avoid other riders if they brake or change direction suddenly.

Use hand signals to indicate your intentions to brake or change direction well in advance of doing so.

Indicate hazards ahead to riders who may be following you.

Slow down to ride across the finish line.
AFTER THE RIDE

Bike racks will be available but your bike’s security is your responsibility.

Put your ride number in the random draw box to be eligible to win a prize.

How will the ride courses be managed?
-
Riders will be given course maps with contact details of officials.
-
Officials on bikes will ride behind the last riders on each course to ensure every rider finishes safely.

Signs and arrows will be erected on all courses to direct riders when there is a change of direction.

Course marshals will be deployed at key locations throughout the course.

Support vehicles driven by Sector Managers will roam the courses with medical, mechanical and transport assistance available. They will have limited supplies of water for riders who have miscalculated their needs.

12 km Metro Circuit

42 km Mount Lofty Circuit from Toll Gate to Elite Time Trial finish (i.e. 5- 14km mark).

42 km Mount Lofty Circuit from Elite Time Trial finish to Norton Summit Pub (i.e. 14-25km mark).

42 km Mount Lofty Circuit from Norton Summit Pub to finish (i.e. 25-42km mark).

Riders who look like they will exceed the ride cut off times will be asked by Sector Managers to accept a ride in the support vehicle.

What should riders do if they need assistance?
-
Move off the road to a safe location.
-
Phone the Sector Manager giving your name, mobile number, issue and location.
-
If you have no phone or signal, please wait and flag down the support vehicle when it passes you.

If urgent, flag down another rider for assistance.
What weather conditions could affect the ride?
Extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, hail and lightning could all affect the ride. If it is decided that any changes will need to be made to the event for safety reasons, these will be communicated, depending on how much advance warning organisers have, by:
